WAG #6 – Overheard

Nixy's WAG exercise (external link) this week is to choose a stranger and do your best to overhear what they say, and then write it down. It can be on the phone, to someone else, or even them talking to themselves. What does their voice, word choice, or tone tell you about them?

In this case the stranger chose me and I had no need to write it down. His part of the cell phone conversation became rather indelibly inscribed in my memory. I paraphrase here and offer it as haiku.

Cellphone
J. M. Strother

They call T. J. in.
Wants his DNA. Hell no.
They not asking me!

It is a very uncomfortable feeling to be found in close proximity to someone speaking these words. No face, just a voice, behind me in the crowd. There are not a lot of reasons to ask for someone's DNA – most not good. Paternity test? Crime scene match? Interesting world we live in.

More WAGS!
